A conversation I have all the time
"How do you do it"?
"Do what" I reply?
"Manage to squeeze so much into one road trip and make it look so easy"?
Well, I will show you and hopefully, you will be inspired to follow my road trips or feel ready to devise your own.
Who am I am what can I do for you?
Some of my trips are a couple of days which don't take much planning, but others are around nine days which are more complicated. I am here to make things easier for you. You can follow my road trips to the book or add in extra things that you enjoy. There will be culture, adrenaline, history, sport, relaxation, peace, and noise to name a few.
These road trips are not limited to the UK but these are the ones I enjoy most. I also, like many enjoy a holiday in the sun but get easily bored of sitting around a swimming pool. What is the point of traveling miles to come home again and have learned nothing new about the area? I need to find out more and I am sure I'm not alone in this. There must be others like me who love exploring but don't know where to begin or have the time to arrange. I can help with this.
When is the best time to go?
I usually road trip in April or September. It's a cheaper time of year to travel. If you are restricted to school holidays Whitson week in late May is cheaper than August. It may not be as hot, but when you are on the move the last thing you want is boiling hot days. The weather in the UK is hit and miss whenever you travel so don't stress over it and embrace a few cooler days.
If money is tight, don't despair, you will see I squeeze as much in for as little as possible. Simple choices staying in a low-cost hotel will free up money for adventures. You only spend a short time in a hotel room why waste money on views when you can be out there living the view.
Why am I writing this travel blog?
To share what I have learned through the trips I've taken, what I would have done differently, and how I have improved them for you to enjoy, You can then follow my trips without all of the planning, you can leave that to me. Remember I 💗 it.
Each month I will share a new trip with you. These are trips I have taken over the past fifteen years or so, so excuse the wrinkles that are now on my face and Matt's receding hairline. I will talk about the places I visited, the miles covered, and what I would recommend or not. It will be a step-by-step guide with planning tools to help you pack your bags and head off on your own adventures.
After I have shared all my previous trips around the UK I will add a couple from European adventures too. When this is all done and there are loads to get through, I will create new road trip idea's ready to go on our future journeys together.
I will be sharing routes, tips, and of course memories that have been made travelling throughout England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Jersey, and beyond.
Who are we?
With my husband Matthew, I have travelled all over the UK and explored what this beautiful place we call home has to offer. So many of us chose to travel abroad but have not explored what is on our own doorstep.
I met Matt in 2001 working together as football stewards for Ipswich town football club. We say it was the bright orange hi-vis jackets that did it. Our affection developed into lovers and then soulmates and twenty years later here we are enjoying the pleasure of life together. We are one of those couples that are joined at the hip, but we love it that way. I wouldn't want to be sharing my life with anyone better. I have one living daughter Kimberley, sadly I lost another daughter to cystic fibrosis Kerry, who inspired me to live life to the full. I also have two beautiful grandchildren.
We live and always have done in the lovely county of Suffolk.
Living in the East of England has its challenges when it comes to road trips, it usually means spending around an hour on the M25 to get anywhere. I am going to be honest I hate driving on the M25 but to get somewhere exciting it has to be done. I am the main driver, so Matt gets to sleep for most of the journey and wakes up just in time for the good bits. I don't mind, I love music and could happily drive for hours singing my heart out. I do get some funny looks but who cares when Fleetwood Mac is on the playlist. I am definitely showing my age here, I am so out of touch with modern music except for Ed Sheeran who also lives in Suffolk, so I am biased, but who doesn't love Ed. By the way, Framlingham where Ed Sheeran grew up is beautiful, I see a future blog here if you would like to visit us here in Suffolk.
I enjoy culture and history, Matt is the adrenaline seeker you will see we find a compromise and plan holidays we both can enjoy. I don't know how he does it but he usually ends up encouraging me onto a quad bike and I will encourage him into a museum or two.
Is this blog for you?
If you like a holiday that is relaxing from start to end then this is not the blog for you, but if you want to start your trip and keep on the move from the moment you leave your house, yes you will feel completely knackered by the end of each day but you would have fully embraced so much of what that area has to offer then keep reading.
In my future blogs, I will share miles covered, expenses, route plans, hotels, experiences, useful travel apps, ways to save money, timing and so much more. Traveling will never feel difficult again because I am going to do all the hard work for you. All you need to do is book your trip by clicking the links I will share and go. I will show you with a little planning you can get so much more out of your holiday.
Of course, you will want to tweak a few things, you may want a more luxurious hotel with that view, or want different adventures from the ones we chose, it is your trip after all.
I am so excited to get started, so get your suitcases ready because this is going to be a tiring but all-inspiring ride!!
